I had to follow that same procedure after a rename

We renamed a bunch of users (including ME) due to an organizational change, and I ended up having to do that same exact sequence of events to recover access to local replica databases.

Once the database is on a server, it can be changed, but not from local.

Like you, I seem to recall a time that it would work locally by adding a group to my local address book, but it would have been back in the 6.5 timeframe.
